Eirene Ministry Blog

This month there was a slight increase in the amount of patients (26) that were seen at the dental clinic.  This is probably because many people are still finding out about the clinic’s existence.  We were able to place a lighted sign outside of the clinic, which has seemed to be helpful, and we also had a dental hygienist come from Oregon this summer who saw many patients and really encouraged them to see the dentist.

In the orthodontics classes, this quarter finished well.  It was somewhat difficult because of the detailed work needing to be done and the cost of the practice materials, but I am happy to report that the hard work paid off and I was able to finish the quarter with an average of 100.  I now have some patients that have begun to come to me for orthodontics, and I am only charging them for their material used in their treatments.

This month there were few students, 6, because the place where we normally hold our classes was under construction.  The students learned to make an embroidered handbag and an apron.  The students that are coming are very happy and content with the classes and with what they are making.

Unfortunately, all of our sewing machines broke down, most likely because of the dampness incurred over the summer.  We are hoping to repair them as soon as possible so that we can continue to keep up the enthusiasm in the students.

• Arrancó el curso de “Formación para Docentes”  para todo el personal.  Se han impartido dos sesiones de diez que están programadas.

• Se llevó a cabo la junta para padres para iniciar las clases del ciclo escolar 08-09. Tenemos programada una segunda junta para padres el viernes 10 de octubre. Está próximo el inicio de Escuela para Padres.

• El 12 de septiembre por la tarde se fumigaron todos los salones.

• Se apoyó, con padres de familia,  pintar algunos muros del pasillo del plantel escolar.

• Hemos tenido juntas de trabajo cada viernes con el personal para fomentar la intercomunicación. Aparte se han tenido entrevistas con cada colaborador para mantenernos en sintonía sobre nuestros objetivos de estudio.

• Gracias a Dios se ha provisto maestra voluntaria para impartir la clase de computación los jueves a las 13:30 a alumnos de primaria.

• Con ayuda del equipo del plantel escolar se presentaron propuestas de Nuestra Misión y Nuestra Visión para trabajar con un mismo propósito objetivo y visión.

• Se elaboró una propuesta  del Reglamento Interno para Alumnos y Reglamento Interno para Docentes con el fin de favorecer el trabajo con responsabilidad, armonía y disciplina.

• Se integraron dos alumnos más en esta última semana de Septiembre. Nuestro estado actual de número de alumnos es el siguiente: 

 Nivel 1:   11   Nivel 2:    8     Nivel 3:    4      Nivel 4:   4         Nivel 6:   3       Total:        30

• Began the training course for teachers with the first two of ten sessions being presented. 

• Held the first parental meeting to begin the school year for 2008-09.  We have planned a second meeting on October 10^th, and we will soon begin the “School for Parents.”

• September 12 we were able to fumigate all of the classrooms.

• Various school parents came and helped paint walls in the hallway of the school.

• Began team meetings with the teachers each Friday to keep good communications flowing.  Each teacher also meets personally with the director every week to make sure that there is harmony amongst all involved and clear objectives being met and maintained. 

• We have been blessed with a volunteer computer teacher who will be giving classes each Thursday to the children in first through third grades.  

• Worked to form the mission and vision of the school to define its purpose as a ministry of Eirene as a whole.

• Completed a policy and procedures manual for teachers and students/parents to encourage responsibility, harmony and discipline.  

• Two new students began the last week of September.  We now currently serve the following numbers of students in each grade level: 

Three year olds:   11   Four year olds:    8     Kindergarten:    4      

First Grade:   4         Third Grade:   3       Total:       30

The last of the construction on the roof is completed!  Things are now watertight and clean!
